PRESCHER
LEADS TWU SECOND-HALF RALLY
Pioneers Fall Short; Defeated by Central Oklahoma,
69-53
DENTON,
Texas – TWU
senior guard Julie Prescher (Valley View, TX) nailed
three consecutive three-pointers in a 1:18 span to lead
the Pioneers on a 27-10 run in the second half. However,
the Pioneers could not overcome Central Oklahoma, who
earned the 69-53 win at Kitty Magee Arena.
"We
kept telling them to shoot basketball and, when they relaxed
that is exactly what they did," TWU head basketball
coach Devin Gabbard said. "When
Julie Prescher hit those threes, it seemed like no one could
miss."
Prescher
hit a total of four three-pointers in the second half and
led the Pioneers’ offense with 16 points. Senior Lacey
Pemberton (Hawkins, TX), who also hit a crucial
three-pointer to pull the Pioneers to within 11 points (60-49)
with 3:46 in regulation, added 11 points. Junior guard Lauri
Engleman (Jewett, TX) tallied a career-best seven
assists in the game.
"I
am so proud of this team," Gabbard added. "When
you look at the adversity they have faced, most teams would
lay down and quit. This team has a lot of heart."
The
Pioneers fall to 1-9 on the season. They hit the road this
Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip at East Central. TWU is back in
Kitty Magee Arena on Thursday, January 15 to host Southwestern
Oklahoma. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
