TWU BASKETBALL DROPS FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS TO MIDWESTERN STATE
Kenyada Frazier Has Career Night For Pioneers

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Despite a career-high 19-point and seven-rebound performance from junior forward Kenyada Frazier (Denver, CO), the Texas Woman’s University basketball team lost its Lone Star Conference opener to Midwestern State, 91-74.

"Kenyada had a great game tonight," TWU head coach Devin Gabbard said. "This is the first time we really saw her play up to her potential and are very pleased with her performance. Defensively, we just didn’t play well as a team and gave them (MSU) a high percentage of good shots."

The Lady Indians certainly took advantage of the situation by shooting 20-36 (.556) in the first half and forcing 24 TWU turnovers in the game. TWU appeared to have the hot hands at the beginning of the game as junior Lauri Engleman (Jewett, TX) drained a three-pointer and junior Ashley Browning (Plano, TX) nailed a short jumper to take a 5-1 lead in the first 1:13 of play. MSU then scored 11 unanswered points and never looked back.

Pioneer senior forward Daphne Lyons (Flower Mound, TX) added 18 points, hitting 6-of-6 from the free throw line, and a team-best eight rebounds.

The Pioneers (1-6, 0-1 LSC) will travel to St. Edward’s on Tuesday, December 30 for their next game. The next home game is Saturday, January 3 versus Northeastern State. Tip-off is 3 p.m. at Kitty Magee Arena.
