PIONEERS MAKE LONE STAR CONFERENCE ACADEMIC LIST

TXThe Lone Star Conference announced its 2002-03
All-Academic teams for South Division women's basketball
and senior guard Meaghan Lewis (Celeste, TX/Blinn College) was
tabbed First Team All-Academic. Fellow teammates Jennifer
Ferrell (Flower Mound, TX/Paris J.C.), Lauri Engleman (Jewett,
TX/Leon H.S.), Jessica Springer (Kirbyville, TX/Blinn College) and Julie
Prescher (Valley View, TX/Valley View H.S.) were named
to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
A
total of 28 student-athletes qualified for the Commissioner's
Honor Roll by having at least a 3.2 grade point average and
completing a minimum of 24 semester hours at her institution.
From that list, the league's sports information directors
selected five women to the All-Academic team. The squad is
based on academic and athletic achievement.
Lewis
makes her second academic team in as many weeks as she was
named Second Team Verizon Academic All-District VI on Feb.
26. Lewis finished her senior season as the team's sixth
leading scorer with 6.46 points per game. She also averaged
2.08 rebounds, 0.38 steals and 0.71 assists per contest.
Springer
finished her senior season as the conference's fourth leading
rebounder, earning 7.70 rebounds per game, while leading
the league in offensive boards (4.02 per game) and earning
Honorable Mention All-South Division honors. She was second
on the team in scoring average with 8.33 points per game
and led the Pioneers with five double-doubles. Ferrell led
the team and finished fourth in the conference by averaging
2.96 assists per game. She led the team in rebounding during
three games this season and averaged 2.52 points and 3.81
boards a contest as well. Engleman was one of the team's
best three-point shooters, making 26.5% of her attempts while
averaging 3.65 points and 2.38 rebounds per game. The sophomore
recorded a season-high 12 points on two different occasions
and led the team in scoring during three games. Prescher
proved to be a valuable junior player off of the bench as
she led the team in three-point shooting accuracy at 35.7%.
She averaged 5.59 points and 1.19 rebounds per game and recorded
a season-high 15 points vs. Abilene Christian on Feb. 1.
