SPRINGER EARNS HONORABLE MENTION ALL-LSC SOUTH DIVISION HONORS IN BASKETBALL

DENTON, TX—The Lone Star Conference announced its All-Conference teams for the 2002-03 season and Texas Woman's University forward Jessica Springer (Kirbyville, TX/Blinn College) was on Honorable Mention selection on the South Division squad. Springer finished her senior season as the conference's fourth leading rebounder, earning 7.70 rebounds per game, while leading the league in offensive boards (4.02 per game). She was second on the team in scoring average with 8.33 points per game and led the Pioneers with five double-doubles.

Angelo State guard Kami Williamson was named the Lone Star Conference South Division women's basketball player-of-the-year after helping the Rambelles to a 24-4 record and their second consecutive divisional title. Williamson, a 5-8 senior from Menard, Texas, led ASU in scoring (12.6 ppg.) and three-point accuracy at 40.6%. She was a second-team South selection as a junior. Joining Williamson on the first team were Texas A&M-Kingsville center Arie Wilson, Abilene Christian center Melanie Carter, Midwestern State center Jel-Ani Armstrong and West Texas A&M forward Celeste Stevenson. Angelo State center Natalja Tsurbakova was voted the division's top defensive player. The 6-3 center from Estonia led ASU with 35 blocks this season.

The division's top freshman was awarded to Midwestern State's Haley Hobson. The 5-7 guard from Canyon, Texas, averaged 9.8 points per game while making 42% of her three-point shots. Midwestern State's Shannon Burks was chosen as the division's coach-of-the-year after he led the Indians to a 21-8 record and a second-place finish in the South.
