PIONEERS' LEWIS NAMED TO VERIZON ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

DENTON, TX—The 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VI Women's Basketball team was released today and senior guard Meaghan Lewis (Celeste, TX/Blinn College) was named to the second team. All first team honorees advance for consideration to the Verizon Academic All-America program. The Academic All-District team is selected by CoSIDA and is part of the Verizon Academic All-America program.

Lewis is making her first appearance on the Academic All-District team and she is the first TWU basketball player to make the list since Angie Traplena did it in 2000. Lewis is currently the Pioneers' sixth leading scorer with 6.46 points per game. She is also averaging 2.08 rebounds, 0.38 steals and 0.71 assists per contest. Lewis is the team's third leading three-point shooter at 24.6% and has made 32 of her 130 shots from beyond the arc. She holds a 3.803 GPA in Biology at Texas Woman's University and wants to become a dentist after she graduates.
