PIONEERS LOSE CONFERENCE
OPENER 67-87 TO MIDWESTERN STATE
WICHITA
FALLS, TXMidwestern State
(2-1, 1-0 LSC) outrebounded Texas Woman's University (1-3,
0-1 LSC), 51-27, and shot 46.9 percent from the field en route
to a 87-67 win in Wichita Falls. The Lady Indians
had five
players in double-figures with Adrian Fincher leading the way
with a game-high 16 points. The Pioneers were 20 of 42 (42.3%)
from the field and 2 of 10 (20%) from three-point range.
The Pioneers were down 30-47 at the half, hitting only 10
of 22 shots from the field and going 0 for 4 from beyond the
arc. The Lady Indians controlled the game with second chance
shooting as they recorded 20 offensive rebounds compared to
TWU's nine. Midwestern State had the hot hand as 10 of its
11 players scored in the game, hitting 30 of 64 shots from
the field and converting 75% of its free-throw chances. The
Pioneers struggled from the line, going 21 of 39 for 53.8%
and also committed 29 turnovers.
Three
Pioneers recorded double-figures in scoring with Keshun
Irving (Karnack, TX/ Tyler J.C.) leading the way with
15 points and a team-high four steals while LaTonya Johnson
(Paris, TX/Paris J.C.) and Sonya Hodge (Eustace,
TX/Paris J.C.) each added 13 points. Lacey Pemberton
(Hawkins, TX/Paris J.C.) and Jessica Springer (Kirbyville,
TX/Blinn College) led the team in boards with five
apiece.
Next
up, the Pioneers continue their road trip as they travel
to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to face Lone Star Conference North
Division member Southwestern Oklahoma on Thursday,
December 5. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
