CAMERON COMES FROM
BEHIND TO EDGE PIONEERS
LAWTON,
OKTexas Woman's University (1-2) came
from a 29-37 deficit at halftime to take an eight point lead
midway through the second half, but some costly turnovers and
late fouls allowed Cameron (1-0) to come from behind
and win the game, 66-71. The Lady Aggies duo of Kimberle Woods
and Antonia White combined for 44 points to help lead Cameron
to victory.
Cameron built an early 0-6 lead before a field goal by Daphne
Lyons (Flower Mound, TX/Louisiana-Monroe) and a three-pointer
by Lauri Engleman (Jewett, TX/Leon H.S.) cut the
lead to one. The Lady Aggies slowed chipped away at the basket
and moved out to their biggest lead of the game, 16-30 with
6:42 left to go in the half. Tiesha Wady (Cooper, TX/Tyler
J.C.) scored six points and led a 10-0 Pioneer run which
cut the lead to four, 30-26, with two minutes left, but Cameron
guard Antonia White scored seven of her 22 points to end
the first period, 29-37.
The Lady Aggies built up an 11-point lead early in the second
half until Meaghan Lewis (Celeste, TX/Blinn College) knocked
down a three-pointer to cap off a 16-2 run which put TWU in
the lead for the first time, 48-45 with 12:17 left to go in
the contest. A couple of minutes later, Sonya Hodge (Eustace,
TX/Paris J.C.) scored eight points in a minute and a
half to extend the Pioneer lead to 58-50, their largest of
the game. Cameron rebounded and slowly chipped away, knotting
the game up a 61-61 with less than four minutes left. TWU was
up 66-61 with three minutes left when the wheels came off.
Cameron sank seven free throws down the stretch and a three-pointer
by Electa Hare during the final stages iced the game for the
Lady Aggies, 66-71.
The Pioneers finished the game shooting 46.2% from the field
and 76% from the stripe. They out-rebounded Cameron 42 to 31,
including a season-high 18 offensive boards. TWU had three
