PIONEER BASKETBALL
LOCKS UP TWO EARLY SIGNEES
DENTON,
TXHead basketball coach Devin
Gabbard announced the signing
of Courtney
Clark (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands HS) and Kelley
Humphries (Coupland, TX/Elgin HS) to National Letters
of Intent at Texas Woman's University for the 2003-2004
academic school year.
Early signing period runs from November 13 through November
20, 2002.
Courtney Clark is a dynamic point guard who brings a
lot of skills to the court. She is an offensive threat with
the ability to score from beyond the arc or penetrating off
the dribble and has the quickness to play great defense, head
coach Devin Gabbard said. Kelley Humphries can play either
guard or forward in the lineup and can score facing or with
her back to the basket. Defensively, she will be one of the
most athletic players joining our team next season. Humphries
will be a key newcomer because of her strength and athletic
ability.
Clark is
a 5'5 point guard who is a four-year letterwinner
in basketball at The Woodlands High School. She earned All-County
Newcomer of the Year honors in 2000 and was voted First Team
All-District 15-5A and First Team All-County in 2002. As a
junior, Clark was honored as her team's Most Valuable Player.
She is the daughter of Jim and Laurie Clark of The Woodlands,
Texas, and is undecided about her major at this time. Clark
played club basketball with the Houston Hoops during the past
two summers and enjoys winter sports and roller blading in
her spare time.
Humphries
is a 5'8 guard/forward who lettered two years
in volleyball and four years in basketball and track at Elgin
High School. She was tabbed Honorable Mention All-District
as a sophomore and followed that up by being named Second Team
All-District while leading the team in steals and assists last
season. Humphries earned Second Team All-District honors in
2001 in volleyball and has been a UIL Regional Qualifier in
the 4x400-meter relay the past three years. A great student
as well, Humphries is ranked fourth in her class and has received
Academic All-District honors in every sport she has lettered.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Honor
Roll and has won academic awards in Spanish, U.S. History,
Chemistry, Computer Information Systems, English and Biology.
The daughter of Bobby and Pam Humphries of Coupland, Texas,
Kelley is active in LCRA Youth Leadership and the Texas Youth
Action Council and would like to major in Business at TWU.
Humphries enjoys listening to music, swimming and bike riding
when she is away from the basketball court.
