TWU STUDENT-ATHLETES RIDE THEIR IMPRESSIVE STREAK
Pioneers’ Grade Point Averages Make the Mark

DENTON, Texas – Texas Woman’s University student-athletes extended their longest consecutive “winning streak” by posting a 3.35 grade point average for the Spring 2004 semester, making it the 44th consecutive semester the Pioneers have posted a 3.0 GPA or better.

TWU sponsors five NCAA sports: basketball, gymnastics, soccer, softball and volleyball. The volleyball team, under the direction of first-year head coach Shelly Barberee, recorded the best cumulative average of 3.552 for 12 student-athletes.

Nine Pioneer student-athletes, including four volleyball players, registered a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring semester. Senior outside hitter Heather Smith (Chino Hills, CA), junior defensive specialist Rochelle Schneider (Adkins, TX), sophomore setter Meredith Fry (Burnet, TX) and freshman outside hitter Robin Hawkins (Flower Mound, TX) aced all their classes.

Senior basketball guard Julie Prescher (Valley View, TX), freshman basketball forward Kelley Humphries (Coupland, TX), junior gymnast Jennifer Bolli (Rockwall, TX), sophomore soccer player Lacey Steinkamp (Sugar Land, TX) and senior softball player Dawn England (Graham, TX) also each posted a 4.0 GPA in the spring.
