RIDE THEIR IMPRESSIVE STREAK
Pioneers’ Grade Point Averages Make the Mark
DENTON, Texas – Texas Woman’s University student-athletes
extended their longest consecutive “winning streak” by
posting a 3.35 grade point average for the Spring 2004 semester,
making it the 44th consecutive semester the Pioneers have posted
a 3.0 GPA or better.
TWU sponsors five NCAA sports: basketball, gymnastics, soccer,
softball and volleyball. The volleyball team, under the direction
of first-year head coach Shelly Barberee, recorded the best cumulative
average of 3.552 for 12 student-athletes.
Nine Pioneer student-athletes, including four volleyball
players, registered a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring semester.
Senior outside
hitter Heather Smith (Chino Hills, CA), junior
defensive specialist
Rochelle Schneider (Adkins, TX), sophomore setter Meredith
Fry (Burnet, TX) and freshman outside hitter Robin
Hawkins (Flower Mound, TX) aced all their classes.
Senior basketball guard Julie Prescher
(Valley View, TX), freshman
basketball forward Kelley Humphries (Coupland, TX), junior gymnast
Jennifer Bolli (Rockwall, TX), sophomore soccer player Lacey
Steinkamp (Sugar Land, TX) and senior softball player Dawn
England (Graham, TX) also each posted a 4.0 GPA in the spring.
