PIONEER VOLLEYBALL TEAM WILL HOST WEEKEND TOURNAMENT
DENTON, Texas (August 30) – The Texas Woman’s University Volleyball team will make their 2007 home debut this weekend when they host a two-day, six-team volleyball tournament at Kitty Magee Arena in Pioneer Hall.
Southwest Baptist University , UT- Permian Basin, Harding University, Missouri Southern State University, and the University of Central Oklahoma will all travel to Denton to participate in this tournament.
Magee Arena will be divided into three volleyball courts for the tournament. Match play will take place simultaneously on two courts while the third court is used for warm-up. The first set of tournament games will begin on Friday, August 31, at 11:00 a.m. when TWU will take on Southwest Baptist University on Court 1 and Missouri Southern State University meets UT-Permian Basin on Court 2. At 2:30 tomorrow afternoon, Southwest Baptist University will face UT-Permian Basin on Court 1 and Harding University will square off against the University of Central Oklahoma on Court 2. The last two matches scheduled for Friday will begin at 6:00 p.m. when TWU tangles with Harding University on Court 1 and the University of Central Oklahoma battles Missouri Southern State on Court 2.
Play on Saturday, September 1, begins at 10:00 a.m. with TWU challenging UT-Permian Basin on Court 1 and Missouri Southern State competing against Harding University on Court 2. At 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, TWU will play their final game of the tournament on Court 1 against Missouri Southern State while Southwest Baptist University goes against the University of Central Oklahoma on Court 2. The last two games of the tournament will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday with Southwest Baptist University meeting Harding University on Court 1 and the University of Central Oklahoma taking on UT-Permian Basin on Court 2.
TWU head volleyball coach Shelly Barberee, who saw her team post a 2-2 record at the Hawaiian Style Classic tournament last week in Hilo, Hawaii, is looking forward to this weekend’s event.
“I’m excited,” she said. “I know my team is ready to play a home match. There are some excellent teams competing in this tournament and I’m eager to see how we fare.”
Single day passes ($6 for adults/$5 for students) will be sold for both days of the tournament. Tournament passes ($10 for adults/$8 students) will also be available for purchase. TWU students, faculty, and staff are admitted free to all home TWU Athletic events with a valid TWU ID. TWU faculty and staff members are also granted three free admissions for guests of their choice (excluding students in grades 9-12) for all home TWU Athletic events.
