PIONEER PRIDE AND PIZZA AND BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
HIGHLIGHT THIS WEEK’S TWU VOLLEYBALL MATCHES
DENTON, Texas (October 9) – The TWU Volleyball team will play two important Lone Star Conference matches on their home court in Kitty Magee Arena this week.
On Thursday, October 11, TWU will welcome the conference leading West Texas A&M University Lady Buffs to Denton for a 7:00 p.m. match. WTAMU, ranked No. 17 in the latest NCAA Division II volleyball poll, is 5-0 in conference play and 19-7 for the season.
Thursday’s match has been dubbed Pioneer Pride and Pizza Night. Free pizza, courtesy of CiCi’s Pizza, will be given out to all fans (while supplies last). The pizza giveaway will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, October 13, at 2:00 p.m., TWU will square off against the Eastern New Mexico University Zias. At Saturday afternoon’s match, the Pioneers will promote Breast Cancer Awareness. Fans in attendance will be asked to donate $1.00 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for every ace served in the match by TWU. Immediately following the game, the Pioneer volleyball players will be stationed at the arena exits to collect donations. Additionally, all fans that wear pink to the match can receive a free popcorn at the TWU Athletics concession stand. Saturday’s match will also be TWU Volleyball Camper Appreciation Day as all children wearing a TWU Volleyball camp t-shirt will be admitted for just a quarter.
TWU head coach Shelly Barberee knows how important this week’s matches are for her team.
“These are two big ones,” said Barberee. “We’re on a bit of a roll right now, having won five out of our last six matches played. We’ve got to keep that momentum going in order to be successful. WTAMU is obviously a high-caliber opponent and Eastern New Mexico is not going to be a pushover. I’m excited to see how we respond to the challenges in front of us.”
TWU students, faculty, and staff (with a valid TWU ID) are admitted free to all TWU home athletics events. Additionally, TWU faculty and staff will be granted three free admissions per home event for guests of their choice (excluding students in grades 9-12). There is also no admission fee for children six and under. |
