PIONEERS STRUGGLE IN LOSS TO ACU

ABILENE, Texas (October 20) – The Texas Woman’s University volleyball team suffered a disappointing Lone Star Conference defeat on Saturday night, falling in three straight games to the Abilene Christian University Wildcats, 13-30, 24-30, 22-30.
For the match, TWU registered just a .067 attack percentage, their lowest of the 2007 season. ACU, conversely, totaled a .371 team attack percentage.
“That pretty much says it all,” said TWU head coach Shelly Barberee. “We just couldn’t get anything going offensively. They were converting every opportunity they had, and we never did anything to slow them down.”
Senior outside hitter Abbie Lowry led the way for the Wildcats with 18 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Krystine Cethoute chipped in with 11 kills while freshman middle blocker Shawna Hines added five block assists.
“Give them credit,” said Barberee. “They were ready to play and we weren’t. For some reason, we came out flat tonight and just never picked it up.”
Freshman middle blocker LyGene’ Traylor and freshman outside hitter Kendra Coulson tied for TWU team-lead with seven kills apiece. Sophomore setter Jessica Crow contributed 25 set assists to the Pioneers’ cause.
The loss drops the Pioneers’ record to 13-10 for the season and 5-4 in the LSC. With the win, ACU evened their season record at 11-11 and improved to 5-3 in conference play.
Next up for the Pioneers will be a non-conference match on Tuesday, October 23, at 7:00 p.m. when they will play at Dallas Baptist University.
