BARBEREE NAMED TWU COACH OF THE YEAR BY GREATER DENTON SPORTS COMMISSION
 DENTON, Texas (May 15) - Texas Woman’s University volleyball head coach Shelly Barberee (pictured at right, in pink) was named the 2006-07 TWU Coach of the Year at the sixth annual Greater Denton Sports Commission (GDSC) Awards Banquet on Monday night at the Gateway Center at the University of North Texas.
Under Barberee’s direction, the TWU volleyball team enjoyed an outstanding 2006 season. The Pioneers recorded a 24-12 overall record (11-1 at home) and a 7-6 mark in the Lone Star Conference. The team also qualified for the LSC postseason volleyball tournament for the fourth consecutive season. As the third seed from the North Division in the tournament, TWU swept a regionally ranked Abilene Christian squad for a quarterfinal win before eventually losing in three games to Cameron University in the tourney semifinals.
Additionally, TWU put two players - middle blocker Kandis Schroeder, and outside hitter Krystle Everett - on the 2006 LSC North Division All-Conference second team. Also, seven members of Barberee’s 2006 Pioneers team earned LSC academic honors (2 players on the LSC North Division All-Academic team and 5 players on the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll).
