TEAM EFFORT HELPS TWU TOP UT-TYLER
TYLER, Texas (Oct. 26) - The Texas Woman's University volleyball team stepped out of conference play on Thursday night and picked up a match win against UT-Tyler, 30-17, 30-24, 18-30, 30-21.
The victory was a team effort by the Pioneers, as thirteen players appeared in the match, and made positive contributions, for TWU.
"The goal for this game was to get all of our girls a chance to play," said TWU assistant coach Ryan Gould. "We were able to do that, and more importantly, everybody that got on the court for us played well. I was very impressed by our winning result tonight against a much improved UT-Tyler squad."
Sophomore middle blocker Kandis Schroeder led the TWU offense with 12 kills and a .306 hitting percentage. Senior middle blocker Nicole Everett added 8 kills, while her sister, outside hitter Nicole Everett, chipped in with 6 kills. Freshman setter Jessica Crow ran the Pioneers offense with efficiency, tossing up 36 assists in the match. Sophomore libero Michelle Villarreal did the defensive heavy lifting for TWU by recording a TWU team-high 17 digs.
The win by TWU, their second straight, sets the Pioneers season record at 22-11. TWU will play the final match of their 2006 regular season on Saturday, October 28, when they host Southwestern Oklahoma State at 2:00 p.m. at Kitty Magee Arena.
