DALLAS BAPTIST DROPS TWU IN FIVE GAMES
DALLAS, Texas (Oct. 17) – The Texas Woman's University Pioneers came up short on Tuesday night, falling in five games to the Dallas Baptist Patriots, 27-30, 13-30, 27-30, 26-30, 12-15.
It was the fifth time in their last six matches that the Pioneers have played the full five games.
TWU started out strong, winning the first game on the strength of a .217 hitting percentage.
In the second game, DBU bounced back, registering 15 kills on 40 attacks.
The two teams' would split the third and fourth games, forcing the match to a decisive fifth and final game.
TWU jumped out to an early lead in the determining game, but, several hitting errors by the Pioneers gave Dallas Baptist the chance they needed. The Patriots scored kills on .367 percent of their attack attempts to earn a 15-12 win.
Pioneers head coach Shelly Barberee pointed out that uneven play throughout the match hurt her team.
"We just didn't play at a consistently high level throughout the match. We played in spurts, and unfortunately, that wasn't good enough to win tonight. They (DBU) have really improved, and we made far too many mistakes. We gave them too many points, and, it came back to hurt us in the end," said Barberee.
Krystle Everett led TWU in the match with 21 kills. Kandis Schroeder chipped in with three block assists.
The non-conference loss sets the Pioneers record at 19-10 for the year. Dallas Baptist improves to 13-14 for the season. Next up on the Pioneers schedule this week is two crucial Lone Star Conference matches. TWU will play at Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday, October 19, at 7 p.m. and then travel to Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, October 21 for a 2 p.m. match.
