MIDWESTERN STATE HALTS TWU WINNING STREAK
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Oct. 3) – A six-match winning streak came to a screeching halt when Midwestern State University swept Texas Woman 's University, 30-27, 30-22, 30-27, Tuesday night in Lone Star Conference North Division action.
All three of the Pioneers ' league losses have been sweeps -- at the hands of Cameron, Central Oklahoma and now Midwestern State.
"The offense didn 't play, the defense didn 't play. It looked like we weren 't ready to play at all," Head coach Shelly Barberee said.
TWU (17-6, 3-3 LSC) hit .119 for the match including an uncharacteristic -.024 in the second game. The team recorded 10 serving errors and only had 46 kills on 151 swings.
The only point in the match at which the Pioneers led was in game 1 when Nicole Everett 's kill gave them a 1-0 lead. MSU tied it on a TWU serving error and slowly built a lead they never relinquished.
In games 2 and 3, the Mustangs (11-8, 2-4) took charge from the first serves and did not drop a game.
Nicole Everett led the TWU attack with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .280.
"Nicole played a good match but no one else was hitting at all," Barberee said. "We have a tough weekend ahead of us and we 've got to play better than this if we want to make it to the playoffs."
TWU travels to Kingsville to compete against South Division teams in the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament Friday and Saturday.
