PIONEERS RUN WINNING STREAK TO NINE

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Texas Woman’s University took wins from St. Edward 's University, 25-30, 30-17, 30-26, 30-22, and the University of the Incarnate Word, 30-24, 24-30, 30-24, 30-20, to go undefeated in the Heartland Crossover Tournament Saturday and extends its winning streak to nine straight matches.

"We played a better match against St. Ed 's," Head coach Shelly Barberee said.  "But our timing is still off and that 's why I split duties at setter (between senior Jill Arnold and freshman Jessica Crow)."

The Pioneers (10-3) recorded a .208 hitting percentage against SEU with sophomore Krystle Everett leading the way with 15 kills and five aces.  Sophomore Katie King had a .429 hitting percentage and put down 11 kills as did sophomore Kandis Schroeder.  Junior Heather Marcus had 24 digs followed by senior Robin Hawkins who had 21.  Crow led with 42 assists to Arnold 's eight, but Arnold added five kills.

"The match against Incarnate Word was not intense and our play dropped off a little," Barberee said.  "We only hit .100 and had to execute a strong serving game to save the match from our hitting errors.  We had 16 aces."

In the second match of the day, it was Everett again who led the Pioneer offense with 15 kills and four aces.  Senior Nicole Everett was right behind with 11 kills.  Crow recorded 26 assists and Arnold had 23 assists.  Hawkins and Marcus were tough on defense with 21 and 20 digs, respectively.

Krystle Everett finished the weekend with her best offensive numbers of the season including 16 kills against Dallas Baptist yesterday and a total of 30 today.

"We did really well and I couldn 't have those kind of numbers without my teammates," commented Krystle Everett.  "It 's the passing and the setting from all of them first.  And whenever I 'm struggling, I have really great teammates who help me.  This season is going so good and I 'm really happy.  We are all so positive and I love how much fun we 're having right now."

TWU will host Texas College Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena before opening Lone Star Conference play on the road.

"We just accomplished one of our team goals and that was to be at double-digit wins at this point of the season," Barberee added.  "We start conference play at Cameron and Central Oklahoma.  We 're going to have to increase our level of play.  With 10 wins, we 're going into this at the right time."
