TWU VOLLEYBALL WINS SIXTH STRAIGHT
DENTON , Texas – The Texas Woman’s University volleyball team ran its winning streak to six with an easy three-game victory over Huston-Tullitson Wednesday at Kitty Magee Arena.
The Pioneers (7-3) finished with 38 kills and 14 aces in a 30-6, 30-14, 30-6 win over the Rams.
Sophomore Kandis Schroeder led TWU at the net with 10 kills, two solo blocks and four block assists. Robin Hawkins added eight kills and three aces, and Jill Arnold finished with 18 assists.
"One thing I was proud of was that my team didn’t quit," TWU head coach Shelly Barberee said. "They continued to play hard. In a match like that it’s easy to put it on auto-pilot and not play your best, but I think we continued to play. Once again we served well. I think we need to increase our intensity for this next week, but overall I think we are playing well."
In game one, Hawkins served nine-straight points to put TWU ahead 19-5. Jessica Crow closed out the game by serving six-straight points including two aces.
In the second game, TWU was only ahead 18-13 before Michele Villarreal served seven-straight points. Madlyn Craven served out the game and had two aces.
Game three was all TWU. Abby Arledge served 18-straight points to put the Pioneers ahead 26-4. Nicole Everett served the final point to send the home team to victory.
"Abby’s contribution definitely brought a spark to the game tonight with a freshman serving 18 straight points," Barberee added. "Again tonight, everyone contributed to another win."
