TWU VOLLEYBALL GETS TWO WINS AT TOURNEY
COMMERCE, Texas. – The Texas Woman’s University volleyball team defeated Dallas Baptist and East Texas Baptist on the opening day of the Texas A&M-Commerce Tournament Friday.
In the first match, TWU (4-3) downed Dallas Baptist 30-23, 26-30, 30-28, 30-21. Senior Robin Hawkins had a whopping 19 kills and 12 digs for the Pioneers. She also had a hitting percentage of .679. Hawkins was one of three TWU players with double-digit kills. Krystle Everett finished with 13 kills and Kandis Schroeder added 11. The Pioneers also had 14 aces in that match.
"We played well that match," TWU head coach Shelly Barberee said. "We came out hard. It was tough to play today because they (A&M-Commerce) don't have an air-conditioned gym and it was really hot and humid. We weren't used to that."
The Pioneers defeated East Texas Baptist University in four games in their second match of the day.
"We went 2-0 today and that was our goal," Barberee added. "We saw some better competition today and we stepped up to the challenge. We played as a team."
TWU will be back in action Saturday in Commerce. They will face UT-Tyler at 10 a.m., and Tarleton State University at 2 p.m.
