PIONEERS ROLL PAST JARVIS CHRISTIAN

DENTON, Texas. – The Texas Woman’s University volleyball team had 19 service aces in a three-game sweep of Jarvis Christian College Tuesday night at Kitty Magee Arena.

Michelle Villarreal had eight aces and Jessica Crow added five as the Pioneers won 30-7, 30-10, 30-17.

In the first game, TWU (2-3) reeled off the first 15 points of the game. Crow served 14 of those 15 points and had four straight aces at one point. Krystle Everett had four kills during the stretch of 15 straight points. Later, Villarreal also served four straight aces as the Pioneer lead grew to 25-3.

"We have been practicing on serving, so I wanted them to step up and do a good job with their serves," TWU head coach Michelle Barberee said. "We knew that this wouldn't be our most difficult match, so we wanted to work on some things and one of those was our serving."

Jarvis Christian had an early 2-1 lead in the second game, but two more aces by Villarreal and kills by Kasye Richmond and Kandis Schroeder helped the Pioneers go ahead 15-4. Richmond had four kills in the second game and Jill Arnold added eight assists.

TWU fell behind 3-0 in the third game but quickly regained the lead. They were ahead 16-11 before Arnold served five straight points. Krystle Everett had five kills including the game winner.

For the match, Krystle Everett finished with 11 kills and Richmond added 10. Heather Marcus had 16 digs and Arnold had 26 assists.

"Jill (Arnold) did a nice job for us tonight," Barberee said. "She controlled our offense and did a great job when she was on the floor."

The Pioneers will compete at the Texas A&M-Commerce tournament Friday and Saturday in Commerce. They are scheduled to play Dallas Baptist and East Texas Baptist on Friday, then face UT-Tyler and Tarleton State on Saturday.
