PIONEERS PUT THREE ON ALL-LONE STAR CONFERENCE TEAM
DENTON, Texas (May 1) – Three Texas Woman’s University softball players – junior centerfielder Tiffanie Boone, senior shortstop Rachel Johnson, and senior third baseman Meagan Peiser – have been selected for the 2008 All-Lone Star Conference South Division team.
Boone was chosen for the All-LSC South Division second team. Johnson and Peiser were named Honorable Mention All-LSC South Division. The 2008 LSC Softball postseason awards were voted upon by the league coaches in each division (North and South) earlier this week.
Boone, who hails from Keller, Texas, was one of the top leadoff hitters in the entire LSC. She led the Pioneers with a .348 batting average, 178 at bats, 33 runs scored, 62 hits, three triples, and 26 walks. Her 42 steals were the most on the TWU team and the second-most in the entire LSC. This is the third year in a row that Boone (pictured) has received Lone Star Conference postseason recognition. In 2006, she was tabbed as the LSC South Division Co-Freshman of the Year and named Honorable Mention All-LSC South Division. Last season, she was a second-team All-LSC South Division choice.
“Tiffanie had a highly productive season,” said TWU softball assistant coach Kristin Minton. “She did a great job of getting on base and helping to create scoring opportunities for us. Her All-Conference selection is richly deserved.”
Johnson, another native of Keller, Texas, was the Pioneers’ top power hitter in 2008. She led all TWU players with nine home runs, 36 runs batted in, 93 total bases, and a .531 slugging percentage. Her 27 runs scored were the second most on the Pioneers’ squad and she finished third on the team in batting average (.309), at bats (175), hits (54), and doubles (10).
Peiser made an immediate impact this season for the Pioneers after transferring to TWU last fall from St. Edward’s University. The Carrolton, Texas native started all 60 of the Pioneers’ games (the only player to do so) and posted exceptional numbers at the plate. Her .313 batting average, 176 at bats, and 55 hits were second only to Boone. The 25 runs she scored were the third most on the team. 11 of her hits this year (six doubles, one triple, and four home runs) were for extra bases.
“I’m extremely happy for Tiffanie, Rachel, and Meagan,” stated Minton. “All three of them played well for us this season and I’m pleased to see them recognized by coaches in the LSC South.”
