PORTER STEPS DOWN AS TWU SOFTBALL COACH
 DENTON, Texas (April 8) – Citing health reasons, Randy Porter has resigned from his position as the head softball coach at Texas Woman’s University.
The 2008 campaign has been a challenging one both on and off the field for Porter. The Pioneers have struggled this season, posting a 16-32 record to date. Unexpected back surgery - his second in less than a year - forced him to be away from the team in the month of March.
Porter (pictured) came out of retirement and joined TWU on an interim basis on December 30, 2006. After leading the Pioneers to a 25-34 record in 2007 and a berth in the Lone Star Conference Softball Tournament, the interim tag was removed and he became the third head coach for the Pioneers since the rebirth of the University’s softball program in 1997.
Porter’s resignation is effective immediately. Assistant Coach Kristin Minton and Student Assistant Alejandro Lozoya will handle all coaching duties for the remainder of this season.
Director of Athletics Chalese Connors said that a search for a new head coach will begin following the conclusion of the 2008 season.
