ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR APRIL SOFTBALL GAMES
DENTON , Texas (April 1) – Pioneer Field is the place to be during the month of April 2008. The Texas Woman’s University softball team will play eleven games on seven days this month at their home facility and numerous promotional activities have been scheduled in conjunction with these contests. Here’s a detailed description of what’s on tap:
Wednesday. April 2, 5/7 p.m. vs. Texas Wesleyan University - This midweek doubleheader against the Rams of Texas Wesleyan will be “Maroon Out” games. Fans are encouraged to wear maroon to show their support for the Pioneers. The 2007-08 TWU Maroon Out shirts will also be on sale at the games for just $5.00.
Friday, April 4, 7:00 p.m. vs. Texas A&M-Kingsville - Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used stuffed animals to these games and take part in the TWU Softball H.U.G. (Help Us Give) Challenge. All of the animals that are collected will be donated to area schools by the TWU softball players.
Saturday, April 5, 1/3 p.m. vs. Texas A&M-Kingsville - The TWU Softball H.U.G. Challenge continues for another day as Pioneers wrap up their Lone Star Conference South Division weekend series against the Javelinas.
Wednesday, April 9, 5/7 p.m. vs. Texas Wesleyan University - The TWU Athletic department will join hundreds of colleges and universities across the country in recognizing excellence in student-athletes by taking part in National STUDENT-Athlete Day. The student-athletes from all five Pioneer teams (basketball, gymnastics, soccer, softball, and volleyball) who are currently holding a 3.0 cumulative GPA and actively involved in the community will be presented with a certificate of recognition from the NCAA between games of this doubleheader. Dr. Don Edwards, the TWU Faculty Athletics Representative, will be on hand to take part in this presentation.
Wednesday, April 16, 7:00 p.m. vs. the University of North Texas - This game against the UNT Mean Green will be the Pioneers’ “Think Pink” Night. The focus of the game will be on raising awareness about the continued fight against breast cancer. Admission will be free, but donations will be accepted to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Pink TWU softball visors will be on sale and a “Think Pink” raffle will be conducted with all proceeds going to charity. Free pizza from DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks will also be given away to all fans (while supplies last) as part of “Pioneer Pride and Pizza Night. The TWU Softball team will also recognize invited TWU Faculty and Staff guests with a brief Faculty/Staff Appreciation ceremony prior to the game. The TWU Kinesiology Department is also holding its first-ever “Kinesiology Night” at this game.
Saturday, April 19, 1/3 p.m. vs. Tarleton State University - The Pioneers’ final two home games of the season will be a pair important Lone Star Conference South Division contests against the TSU TexAnns. The two senior members of the 2008 TWU softball team - third baseman Meagan Peiser and shortstop Rachel Johnson - and the 2008 TWU softball parents will be recognized at this doubleheader.
TWU students, faculty, and staff are granted free admission to all TWU home softball games with a valid TWU ID. TWU faculty and staff are also permitted three free admissions for guests of their choice (excluding children in grades 9-12) for all TWU home softball games. Children 6 and under are admitted free to all TWU home softball games.
