TARLETON STATE SHUTS OUT TWU 6-0

DENTON, Texas (April 18) – Tarleton State University senior pitcher Brooke Saulters pitched a complete game shutout to lift the TexAnns to a 6-0 win over the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers on Friday evening at Pioneer Field in Denton.
Saulters limited TWU to just five singles and a double to win her eleventh game of the season for the TexAnns. The Pioneers best scoring chance of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when two singles (by junior infielder Shian Smitherman and sophomore left fielder Billie Callahan) and a sacrifice bunt (from senior Rachel Johnson) put runners on second and third with just one out. Saulters was able to work out of the jam, however, by inducing TWU third baseman Meagan Peiser to ground out to third and TWU catcher Kaley Frye to pop up to shortstop.
 Tarleton State managed just six hits in the game off TWU pitcher Allie Packer (pictured), but three of them were for extra bases. The Pioneers also hurt themselves with three errors. TSU scored single runs in the first, third, and fourth innings and then put the game away with three tallies in the top of the seventh.
The Pioneers (16-37, 2-11 LSC South) and the TexAnns (22-22, 10-3) will conclude their three-game Lone Star Conference South Division weekend series Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. It will be the final home event of the season for the 2008 TWU Softball team.
