SAN ANGELO, Texas (April 11, 2008) – An effective pitching performance from Angelo State University starting pitcher Kari Galm carried the Rambelles to a 7-0 win over the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers on Friday night at the ASU Softball Field in San Angelo, Texas.
Galm, a senior from San Antonio, gave up just four hits, three of them singles, and did not allow a TWU run in six innings of work to improve her season record to 23-2. The only extra base hit in the game for the Pioneers was a double by junior centerfielder Tiffanie Boone in the top of the first inning.
Junior shortstop Macy Baker was the offensive star of the night for ASU. The Lone Star Conference South Division Preseason Player of the Year singled and scored in the bottom of the fourth inning and then smacked a two-run home run, her eighth of the year, in the bottom of the sixth inning.
ASU, the fifth-ranked team in this week’s NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll, improves to 36-9 overall and 10-3 in the LSC South with the win. TWU falls to 16-33 overall and 2-8 in the LSC South with the loss.
ASU and TWU will wrap up their three-game weekend series tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
