WET WEATHER WASHES OUT WEDNESDAY’S TWU SOFTBALL
DENTON, Texas (March 18) – The rainy weather in the North Texas area has forced the cancellation of the TWU/University of the Incarnate Word softball doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, at 3 and 5 p.m. at Pioneer Field in Denton.
The decision to cancel Wednesday’s games also has an affect on the Pioneers’ Thursday plans. Originally, TWU was slated to play East Central University in an evening doubleheader (5/7 p.m.) Instead of playing two games against the Tigers, TWU will now play Incarnate Word at 3:00 p.m. and ECU at 7:00 p.m. Incarnate Word and ECU will play at 5:00 p.m.
“We’re trying to make the best of a difficult situation,” said TWU head coach Randy Porter. “Everybody (TWU, UIW, ECU) wants to play, but with us losing two days due to weather and travel it’s just not feasible to try and jam that many games in to such a short period of time. The best solution for everybody is a round-robin event on Thursday that will allow each team to play two games. Hopefully the rain will clear up by then and we’ll be able to get the games in.”
Admission for Thursday’s three-game set at Pioneer Field is just $4.00 for adults (ages 17 and up) and $3 for non-TWU students and senior citizens. Children 6 and under, TWU students, faculty and staff get in free to all home TWU athletics events. TWU faculty and staff are also granted three free admissions for guests of their choice (excluding students in grades 9-12) to all home TWU athletics events.
