TWU SWEPT ON SECOND DAY OF ST. MARY’S TOURNAMENT

 SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 2) - The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers dropped a pair of games on Saturday afternoon at the St. Mary’s NCAA Division II College Classic in San Antonio, Texas.
TWU was edged 1-0 by Delta State University in their first game of the day. Sophomore pitcher Carly Case (pictured) fared well in her Pioneer debut, pitching seven strong innings and giving up the lone Statesmen run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Unfortunately for Case, the TWU offense was not able to generate any runs against the Delta State pitching.
The Pioneer bats remained silent in their second game of the day, an 9-0 six-inning loss to a fellow Lone Star Conference opponent, Cameron University. The majority of the Cameron offense came via the longball, as the Aggies blasted four home runs in the game off the Pioneers’ pitching duo of Allie Packer and Ashley Martin.
“We were right there against Delta State, but unfortunately, we couldn’t make the clutch offensive or defensive play necessary to get the win,” said TWU head coach Randy Porter. “Our pitching let us down against Cameron, as we just couldn’t locate the ball where we needed to and the Aggie hitters took full advantage of our mistakes.”
TWU will wrap up play in their season-opening tournament with a game on Sunday morning, February 3, versus the tourney’s host team, the St. Mary’s University Rattlers.
