PIONEERS HEATING UP AS THEY PREPARE TO OPEN LSC SOUTH DIVISION PLAY
DENTON, Texas (February 27) – Having won three out of their last four games played, the Texas Woman’s University softball squad can definitely be described as a team on the rise.
The Pioneers will look to continue their strong play this weekend when they play five games over a span of three days. On Thursday, February 28, TWU will travel to Durant, Oklahoma to take on the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Savage Storm in an afternoon doubleheader. The team will return to Denton on Friday, February 29, to open Lone Star Conference South Division play with a 7:00 p.m. home game at Pioneer Field versus West Texas A&M University. On Saturday, March 1, TWU and the Lady Buffs will play a doubleheader at Pioneer Field, with game one scheduled for 12:00 noon and game two set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon’s contests with the Buffs were originally scheduled to begin at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. The first pitch for those games have been bumped up by one hour to accommodate WTAMU’s travel schedule.
TWU head coach Randy Porter recognizes the importance of his team’s upcoming games.
“We played well last weekend at Henderson State,” said Porter. “Now, we need to build on that momentum and keep this thing headed in the right direction. It would go a long way in the conference race if we could start out with two or three wins over WTAMU.”
Tickets for all of the Pioneers’ 2008 softball home events are $4 for adults, and $3 for senior citizens (ages 55 and up) and non-TWU students. TWU students, faculty, and staff are admitted free with a valid TWU ID. Children 6 and under are also admitted free. Additionally, TWU faculty and staff are allowed three free admissions for guests of their choice (excluding students in grades 9-12) to all home TWU Athletics events.
