TWU SPLITS ON SECOND DAY OF DIAMOND REDDIE CLASSIC
TWU 4, TAMK 3 - Box Score
HSU 5, TWU 1 - Box Score
ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas (February 23) – The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers split their two games on the second and final day of the Henderson State University Diamond Reddie Classic in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
A single by sophomore outfielder Billie Callahan (pictured) drove in two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give TWU a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Javelinas in the Pioneers’ first game of the day. Callahan’s clutch base hit, her second of the game, helped the Pioneers’ pitcher, sophomore Carly Case, pick up a richly-deserved complete game win. Case no-hit the Javelinas through the first five innings of play before allowing TAMK to plate three runs in their last two at-bats. Two solo home runs by the Javelinas’ Jessika Cantu and Ariel Lichtenberger appeared to have TAMK in line for the win before the Pioneers rallied in the home half of the seventh inning.
The Pioneer bats were quieted by Henderson State University pitcher Lauren Carley in their second game of the day. Carley scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run to help the Lady Reddies to a 5-1 win over TWU. HSU senior shortstop Kelcie Glidden gave Carley all the run support she would need in the game with two hits and two runs batted in.
Now 6-13 on the season, TWU will return to the field next Thursday, February 28, when they travel to Durant, Oklahoma for an afternoon doubleheader (1/3 p.m.) against Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
