DENTON, Texas (February 10) - The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers struggled on the second day of the TWU Tournament, losing games to Henderson State University Lady Reddies and the St. Edward’s University Hilltoppers.
The Pioneers lost 4-3 in ten innings in their morning matchup with HSU. Sophomore pitcher Carly Case was outstanding in the defeat for the TWU, allowing just six hits and one earned run in a complete game effort in the circle. The decisive hit for the Lady Reddies came in the tenth inning when senior catcher Kelcie Glidden ripped a triple into right centerfield that plated freshman shortstop Kayla Lucas with what proved to be the game-winning run. Senior third basemen Meagan Peiser carried the load offensively in the loss for TWU, banging out three hits, scoring one run, and driving in another.
TWU appeared to run out of gas in their second game of the day, a 6-1 loss to St. Edward’s. After being held off the scoreboard in the first three innings of play, SEU struck for six runs in the final three innings to pull away from the Pioneers. Freshman left fielder Lexi Stephens did the bulk of the damage for the Hilltoppers, tallying four hits while driving in two runs and scoring two more. Junior right fielder Kayla Behrle totaled three of the six hits in the game for twu.
