2007: Started 53 games - primarily at first base - in her first season at TWU…had 35 hits in 137 at bats for a .255 batting average…led the team with 25 runs batted in and 22 walks…recorded eight extra-base hits, four doubles and four home runs…second on the club in both home runs and on-base percentage (.358)…had 10 multiple-hit games and six multiple-RBI games (tying with catcher Kaley Frye for the team lead in that category)…enjoyed a season-high four-game hitting streak from March 2-16…best game of the season came on February 3 when she belted two home runs and drove in three runs in a 15-6 TWU loss vs. Midwestern State…played solid defense at first base, totaling a .969 fielding percentage…led the Pioneers, and was third in the Lone Star Conference, with 415 chances…also tallied a team-leading 387 putouts, the third-most in the conference.
PRIOR TO TWU: Played in seven games (with two starts) during the 2006 season at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana...recorded one hit in nine at bats for the Demons.
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned four varsity softball letters while splitting time at Aledo High School in Aledo, Texas, and Western Hills High School in Fort Worth, Texas...played her way onto the All-District 6-4A first team in both 2004 and 2005...also was a member of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Super Team in 2004 and 2005...Smitherman also played three years of varsity basketball in high school...played club softball with the Fort Worth Bat Busters...graduated cum laude from Western Hills in May 2005 with a 3.7 GPA.
PERSONAL: Majoring in social work with an emphasis in protective services at TWU...the daughter of Chuck and Ranita Smitherman...primary hobby is watching basketball (the Dallas Mavericks and the TWU Pioneers) in her spare time.
