KRISTIN MINTON HIRED AS ASSISTANT SOFTBALL COACH

DENTON, Texas (July 31) Texas Woman’s University Director of Athletics Chalese Connors has announced the hiring of Kristin Minton as the Pioneers’ assistant softball coach effective August 1.

Minton, 25, comes to TWU with extensive collegiate softball coaching experience on her resume. For the last two years, she served as the assistant softball coach at Vernon College in Vernon, Texas. Prior to her stint at Vernon, she was the assistant softball coach from August 2004 - May 2005 at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) in Chickasha, Okla. This summer, she worked as a camp counselor at the nationally acclaimed University of Texas Softball Camps.

Before embarking on her coaching career, Minton was a successful collegiate softball player. As a catcher, she played two seasons (2000-02) at Vernon College and then transferred to USAO where she played from 2002-04. She earned multiple All-Conference and All-Region honors at both Vernon and USAO. Additionally, she received her Associate of Arts in General Studies from Vernon in May 2002, and her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from USAO in August 2005.

TWU head softball coach Randy Porter will have Minton focusing primarily on the Pioneers’ pitchers and catchers.

This hiring is a reunion of sorts for Minton and Porter. Minton played for Porter in 1997 as a freshman at Arlington ( Texas) High School when Porter was the head softball coach for the Colts.

“I know from first-hand experience that Coach Porter is an exceptional softball coach. To have the opportunity to work with him is one of the main reasons that I decided to come to TWU. I’m excited to be joining the Pioneers athletics staff and I’m looking forward to going to work,” said Minton.

Porter believes that Minton will make a positive impact on his softball squad.

“Kristin is a wonderful addition to our TWU softball program,” he said. “She has outstanding experience both as a player and a coach. I expect her to play a major role in the future success of our team.”
