RUSS-KELLER AND BOONE EARN LSC ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION
DENTON, Texas (May 18, 2007) – Two Texas Woman’s University softball student-athletes - senior pitcher Lindsy Russ-Keller and sophomore centerfielder Tiffanie Boone - received Lone Star Conference academic honors on Friday.
Russ-Keller (pictured at right) was named to the 2007 LSC South Division All-Academic Softball Team while Boone was selected to the 2007 LSC South Division Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
To be eligible for LSC academic recognition, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.20 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All qualifying student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
This is the third year in a row that Russ-Keller, a criminal justice major with a 3.27 GPA, has received an LSC academic award. Last spring, she was a member of the LSC South Division Commissioner’s Honor Roll. In 2005, she was a LSC South Division All-Academic Team selection. Russ-Keller’s academic excellence this season was complimented by her on-field brilliance. The native of San Leon, Texas led TWU in virtually every pitching category, including wins (12), games started (25), complete games (24), shutouts (3), innings pitched (171), and strikeouts (108). Earlier this month, she was voted onto the 2007 LSC South Division All-Conference second team.
A kinesiology major with a 3.43 GPA, Boone (pictured at left) started 57 of the Pioneers’ 59 games this season. She led TWU with 54 hits, 75 total bases, 34 runs scored, 8 triples, and 31 stolen bases. She was also chosen for the 2007 LSC South Division All-Conference second team.
TWU finished its 2007 softball season with a 25-34 overall record and an 11-13 mark in the LSC South Division. The Pioneers also competed in the 2007 Lone Star Conference Postseason Softball Tournament.
