TWU TOPS MISSOURI WESTERN 3-0

 JOPLIN, Missouri (September 5) – The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers picked up their second road win in a row on Friday afternoon by defeating Missouri Western State 3-0 in Joplin, Missouri.
Three sophomores – forward Raven Morales, midfielder Rebekah Ledet, and midfielder Kyli Morgan – found the back of the net in the victory for TWU.
Morales gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the games’ third minute when she intercepted a pass outside the Griffons goal box and punched the ball past the MWSU goalkeeper.
TWU extended its lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute when Ledet scored on the rebound of her own blocked shot. Ledet’s scoring opportunity was set up by a nice head-man pass from freshman forward Dani DeCoursin.
Morgan scored for the second game in a row in the 76th minute when she headed in a corner kick off the foot of sophomore forward Chastity Hayter.
TWU head coach Fleur Benatar credited her team for taking advantage of their offensive chances in the win.
“We made the most of our opportunities today,” said Benatar. “We put together some nice sequences and connections and converted them into goals.”
TWU (2-1) will stay in Joplin and take on Missouri Southern State on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2:30 p.m.
