FIVE TWU SOCCER PLAYERS NAMED TO 2007 LSC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
DENTON, Texas (November 2) - Five Texas Woman’s University student-athletes were named to the 2007 Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer All-Conference team.
Sophomore forward Chastity Hayter (pictured) was tabbed for the LSC All-Conference first team. Senior defender Sue Cribbes and junior defender Theresa Sanches were picked for the LSC All-Conference second team. Senior midfielder Romy Luna and sophomore midfielder Jacqueline Horner were recognized as honorable mention selections.
Hayter, who was an honorable mention All-Conference choice in 2006, emerged as one of the Pioneers’ top offensive weapons after a midseason position switch from defender to forward. She led TWU in shots (43), shots on goal (27) and shots on goal percentage (.628). She finished second on the team in goals (two) and points (10). Her two assists were tied for the second most on the squad. From October 7-21, she registered at least one point in five consecutive games played. This All-Conference honor is Hayter’s third LSC award of the season. On Tuesday, October 23, she was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 16-22, 2007. On Wednesday, October 31, the DeSoto, Texas product was recognized for her academic prowess with a selection to the 2007 Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
This is the third year in a row that Cribbes, the Pioneers’ senior team captain, has been an All-Conference choice. In 2005, she was an honorable mention selection. Last season, she was a second team All-Conference pick. The Flower Mound, Texas native started all 20 of the Pioneers’ games this season and was the anchor of the team’s defensive corps that allowed just 24 goals against. Cribbes also chipped in offensively with two goals, 34 shots, and 17 shots on goal.
Sanches, a junior from Denton High School, was another key defensive player for the Pioneers. In her 11 games played this year, TWU allowed just 12 goals against. She also contributed offensively by scoring two goals and firing 13 shots.
Luna, a senior from Lewisville, was a midfielder starter for all 20 of the Pioneers’ games this season. She scored one goal, assisted on two more, and fired 21 shots. A kinesiology major with a 3.82 GPA, Luna was also named to the 2007 LSC Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team.
Horner, a sophomore from Denton High School, started 17 of the Pioneers’ games in the midfield. She directed the TWU offensive attack with efficiency in addition to totaling 30 shots, the fourth-highest total on the TWU roster. A kinesiology major with a perfect 4.0 GPA, Horner was also named to the 2007 LSC Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team.
