#22 UCO TOPS TWU 4-0
Box Score
EDMOND, Oklahoma (October 5) – Senior midfielder Lacy Cooley scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos to a 4-0 victory over the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers on Friday evening in Edmond, Oklahoma.
UCO, the 22nd ranked team in NCAA Division II, seized control of the game in the seventh minute of the first half when junior forward Lacy Williams scored a breakaway goal. Cooley extended the Bronchos lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute when controlled a headed ball from junior forward Jenny Racicot in the TWU box and was able to chip in her third goal of the season.
The Bronchos pushed their advantage to 3-0 in the 40th minute when senior forward Carmen Davis converted a cross from senior midfielder Kasey Mahaffey into her UCO team-high seventh goal of the season.
Cooley scored the only goal of the second half in the 61st minute off of a UCO corner. Senior midfielder Moriah Chinnock started the scoring play when she lofted the corner kick towards the TWU net. Freshman fullback Ashton Morris headed the ball to the right foot of Cooley who easily punched it into the TWU net.
TWU head coach Fleur Benatar said the early scores by UCO put her team on its heels.
“Giving up the two early goals really hurt us tonight,” stated Benatar. “They came out aggressive and took control. Once we got behind, we started to press, and that played right into their hands.”
Freshman midfielder Gayle Grand-Lienard had two of the Pioneers five shots in the game. Junior goaltender Aly Vincent, with 8 saves, also played well in the loss for TWU.
The win by the Bronchos (9-3-1, 3-0 LSC) extended their unbeaten streak in Lone Star Conference play to 28 straight games. The defeat dropped the Pioneers record to 3-8-1 on the season and 0-3 in the LSC.
TWU will next take the field on Sunday, October 7, when they play a 2:00 p.m. game against Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
