SIX TWU SOCCER PLAYERS RECEIVE LSC ACADEMIC HONORS
DENTON, Texas (October 31) – Three Texas Woman’s University soccer players - Aly Vincent, Romy Luna, and Jacqueline Horner - have been selected to the 2007 Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team.
Three other TWU soccer student-athletes - Natalie Harrison, Christine Hornisher, and Chastity Hayter - were named to the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes need at least a 3.20 grade point average and must be at least a sophomore. All academically qualified student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
TWU had the second-most players chosen for the LSC All-Academic Team amongst all of the conference’s women’s soccer squads. Central Oklahoma put a conference-high four players on the team, led by goalkeeper Carly Fischer, the 2007 Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer Academic Player of the Year. Angelo State placed three players on the team while Abilene Christian had one player selected.
Vincent started all 19 of the Pioneers’ games in goal this season, compiling a record of 8-9-2. She was chosen as the LSC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of August 27-September 2 and as the LSC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the weeks of October 9-15 and October 16-22. A local product from Denton’s Billy Ryan High School, Vincent is a junior mathematics major who currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA. This is the second year in a row that Vincent has been named to the Academic All-Conference team.
This is the third consecutive year that Luna has been named to the Academic All-Conference team. A senior kinesiology major from Lewisville with a 3.82 GPA, she started all 19 games for TWU this season, scoring one goal and assisting on two more. She also totaled 20 shots (nine on goal) for the season.
Horner, who hails from Denton and attended Denton High School, started 16 games in the midfield for the Pioneers this season. She totaled 29 shots (nine on goal) and helped efficiently direct the TWU offensive attack throughout the year. A sophomore kinesiology major, Horner currently has a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Harrison, who plays defender for TWU, is a junior marketing major from Denton (who also played at Denton High School) with a 3.33 GPA. She started 12 games for the Pioneers this season, and was a primary reason that TWU allowed just 23 goals against.
Another Denton native (and Denton High School product) Hornisher has a 3.79 GPA in finance at TWU. The senior forward recorded two goals (including one game-winner) and an assist in 19 games played this season. She finished tied for third on the Pioneers’ roster with five total points. Hornisher was also a member of the 2006 Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team and the 2005 Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Hayter, a sophomore forward from DeSoto and DeSoto High School, started 18 of the Pioneers’ 19 games this season. She finished second on the team in both goals scored (4) and points (10). She also tallied two assists and team-highs in shots (42) and shots on goal (27). Hayter was picked as the LSC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 16-22.
