HAYTER AND VINCENT RECEIVE LONE STAR CONFERENCE WEEKLY AWARDS
DENTON, Texas (October 23) – Two Texas Woman’s University soccer players - sophomore forward Chastity Hayter and junior goalkeeper Aly Vincent - have received this week’s Lone Star Conference (LSC) Player of the Week awards.
Hayter (pictured at right), a DeSoto, Texas, native, was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in the Pioneers’ two wins last week. On Friday, October 19, she scored the only goal of the game on a free kick from 27 yards out in a 1-0 TWU victory over regionally-ranked West Texas A&M University. On Sunday, October 21, she assisted on freshman midfielder Kyli Morgan’s goal that lifted the Pioneers past Eastern New Mexico University 1-0. Hayter, who has registered at least one point in each of the Pioneers’ last five games played, is currently second on the TWU roster in both goals (4) and points (10). She leads the team in shots (32) and shots on goal (19).
Vincent, a local product from Billy Ryan High School, was chosen as one of the LSC Co-Defensive Players of the Week after shutting out both West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico. She stopped all 13 shots she faced in the two games combined to run her current shutout streak to 290 minutes. For the season, she now has an 8-8-1 record, a school-record 124 saves, five shutouts, a 1.27 goals against average, and a .849 save percentage. This is the second week in a row that Vincent has earned LSC Co-Defensive Player of the Week recognition. She also won the LSC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the week of August 27-September 2.
Hayter, Vincent (pictured at left), and the rest of the Pioneer soccer squad are currently on a school-record five game winning streak. The recent surge has raised their season record to 8-8-1 overall and 5-3 in LSC play. TWU is currently alone in third place in the LSC standings and can move closer to securing a berth in the 2007 Lone Star Conference Postseason Soccer Tournament with a win at Angelo State University this Friday, October 26, at 4:00 p.m.
