PIONEERS PROMINENT ON 2006 LSC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
DENTON, Texas (Oct. 27) – Four Texas Woman’s University soccer players--Romy Luna, Christine Hornisher, Britney Cochrum, and Aly Vincent--have been selected to the 2006 Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team.
Three other TWU soccer student-athletes--Natalie Harrison, Melissa Williams, and Cristina Arista--were named to the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.20 grade point average with a minimum of 24 semester hours completed at the nominating institution.
TWU easily had the most players chosen to the All-Academic team amongst all the Lone Star Conference institutions. Seven other LSC member schools had one player apiece receive All-Academic recognition. West Texas A&M forward Sarit Shenar was chosen as the Lone Star Conference Academic Soccer Player of the Year.
A kinesiology major from Lewisville with a 3.91 GPA, Luna played in all 19 games for TWU this season, scoring one goal and assisting on one more. She fired 15 shots (seven on goal) for the season. Luna was also a member of the 2005 LSC All-Academic Team.
A Denton native, Hornisher has a 3.85 GPA in finance at TWU. The junior forward recorded three goals and an assist in 19 games played this season. She finished second to Emily Meinen on the Pioneers’ roster in both goals and points (7). Last season, Hornisher was named to the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Cochrum, who hails from Arlington and is majoring in kinesiology with a 3.97 GPA, played in fourteen games for TWU this year, starting two.
Vincent started 16 games in goal this season, compiling a record of 4-11-2. She made 118 saves and posted a goals against average of 2.06 and a save percentage of .756. Four of her wins came by shutout. Another local product from Denton, Vincent is a mathematics major who currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Harrison, who plays defense for TWU, is a sophomore business major from Denton with a 3.62 GPA. She started in 18 games for the Pioneers this season, assisting on one goal and recording three shots on goal for the year.
Williams, a senior kinesiology major with a 3.38 GPA, was one of the Pioneers’ top defensive players this year. The junior from Arlington, Texas, started all 19 TWU games.
Arista is a junior midfielder from Denton. She appeared in 13 games for the Pioneers this season, recording two shots. Arista is a kinesiology major with a 3.23 GPA.
The Pioneers wrapped up their 2006 campaign last Sunday, Oct. 22. TWU finished the year with a 4-13-2 overall record and a 1-7-1 mark in conference play.
