CRIBBES SCORES LONE GOAL IN WIN OVER MESA STATE

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (Sept. 29) – The high altitude and a long bus trip didn 't affect Texas Woman 's University as they met the fifth-ranked team in the Midwest Region, Mesa State College, Friday afternoon.  The Pioneers earned their second consecutive shut out victory with a 1-0 win over the Mavericks on a goal from Sue Cribbes with two seconds left in the first half.

"There were 17 seconds on the clock and we had a throw-in.  Natalie Harrison threw in a bomb from the right sideline that bounced off a bunch of people before a defender cleared it with her knee," Cribbes said.  "I was at the top of the 18-yard box, got the ball and just ripped it into the top left corner."

Scoring her second goal of the season at 44:58, Cribbes gave TWU a huge lift going into halftime.  Head coach Fleur Benatar said TWU (4-6-2) dominated the first half with quite a few opportunities to score.  The Pioneers sent in cross after cross that barely missed.

"It was an awesome goal, real quick," Benatar said.  "She [Cribbes] had made about six [offensive] runs in the first half before she scored.  Chaz [Chastity Hayter] hit the post once. [Emily] Meinen had some great shots.  We had probably four great chances to score in the first half and we should have scored early."

Meinen led the team with seven shots and Hayter tallied four.  Both team had 11 shots in the first half with TWU adding nine more in the second while MSC (7-3-1) added 13.

"We didn 't play as well in the second half," Benatar said.  "The field is really small so every free kick was dangerous.  Aly [Vincent] played well and made 11 saves.  We worked really hard and didn 't let them score."

Vincent now has four shutouts on the year which ties her total from her 2005 freshman season.

The win evens the all-time series between these two clubs at one apiece.  MSC took the first meeting, 4-1, on Sept. 7, 2003, at a neutral site in Denver.

TWU, coming off a 2-0 over East Central last Sunday, has strung together back-to-back wins for the second time this season.  They 'll go for three Sunday in Durango, Colo., when they play Fort Lewis College.
