TWU SOCCER FALLS TO INCARNATE WORD 4-1
SAN ANTONIO , Tex. – Texas Woman’s University freshman Chastity Hayter scored her first collegiate goal, but it wasn’t enough as the Pioneers fell to the University of Incarnate Word Cardinals 4-1 Sunday in soccer action in San Antonio.
Hayter’s goal was the first of the season for TWU (0-2-0) and came in the 14 th minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. But from then on it was all UIW with the evening goal coming just 2:07 later. Shamsi Arian tallied the score on a free kick after a TWU foul.
“”We were feeling good about things after we scored, then we come back and give up a free kick,” TWU head coach Fleur Benatar said.
UIW went on to score twice more in the first half to take a 3-1 lead at halftime The only goal of the second half came from a TWU “own goal” in the 49 th minute.
“Individual mistakes cost us the game,” Benatar said. “Three out of their four goals came from our mistakes. Overall we improved from Friday (a loss to St. Mary’s). We had a good offensive attack today, but what it came down to was our individual mistakes.”
The Pioneers will have their home opener Wednesday against Texas A&M-International. The match will begin at 4 p.m., and will be played at the University of North Texas’ Intramural Fields while construction continues on the new TWU Soccer Complex.
