WILSON NAMED ASSISTANT SOCCER COACH
DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University soccer coach Fleur Benatar announced the addition of Meagan Wilson as an assistant coach for the Pioneers soccer program effective immediately.
Wilson comes to TWU from East Central University, which also competes in the Lone Star Conference. She served as the graduate assistant coach in 2005 after playing goalkeeper for the Tigers for four years.
“Meagan comes to TWU with intensity and brings another level to the program. Her experience in the conference and as a goalkeeper will immediately impact the team,” Benatar said. “I’m excited about someone coming in with as much passion as I do for coaching. She is a perfect fit for this program.”
As a coach, Wilson was in charge of the goalkeepers including game preparation and tactics. She also assisted with recruiting, travel preparations, scheduling, study hall and day-to-day office duties.
She was the Tigers captain her junior and senior seasons. As a senior, she earned a spot on the 2004 Lone Star Conference all-tournament team and was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week. Wilson had three shutout victories in 2004 and was second in the conference in total saves with 120. She also led the league in saves per game with a 6.67 average.
Wilson received a bachelor’s degree in finance (May 2004) and a master’s degree in sports administration (December 2005) at ECU. She earned her U.S. Soccer Federation National “D” coaching license earlier this year.
The Dallas native attended Duncanville High School and was a member of the Texas Lightning soccer club for four years.
Wilson replaces Tamura Crawley who served as an assistant for two years before taking a position as the director of soccer for the Edge Extreme, an indoor sports facility in Flower Mound.
