The prizes will be given away starting at 3 p.m. at the end of the tournament. Fans can purchase their raffle tickets in advance; tickets are being sold on the second floor of the Student Union from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. today and Monday, April 2.
All proceeds from the event benefit student-athlete scholarships.
“We are in the middle of the biggest push of the Pioneer Athletics Fund Drive and Putting Fore Pioneers is a unique way to get our campus community involved,” Director of Athletics Chalese Connors said. “I’m hopeful that instructors, staff members and students will come over to the Student Union next Tuesday and participate in this fun event.”
Each year, approximately 80 Pioneer student-athletes participate in intercollegiate athletics while also excelling academically at the University. For the past 49 consecutive semesters, the cumulative grade point average of all five teams has never dropped below a 3.0. Almost all of these outstanding young women receive some form of scholarship assistance, ranging from small awards to full scholarships that cover tuition, fees, housing, meals and books.
For the 2007-08 academic year, a full grant-in-aid at TWU will cost an estimated $12,626.50 and the amount needed to support the five Pioneer varsity teams is $518,949.15 through a combination of donations, fundraisers, University support, and generated revenue from the Athletics department and its summer camps.
