COME WELCOME HOME THE 2008 USA GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!
SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (April 19) – The Texas Woman’s University gymnastics team, winners of the 2008 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championship, will return to Denton from Shreveport, Louisiana at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19.
The TWU community, as well as all fans, friends, and supporters of Pioneer gymnastics, are encouraged to come welcome home the TWU gymnasts and coaches when their team bus arrives in the parking lot adjacent to the tennis courts on the TWU Denton campus.
“Our team is thrilled to be bringing home another USAG title back to Denton. We want to share the excitement of winning with the fans that supported us all season long. Hopefully we can get a few folks out to the parking lot to welcome us home,” said TWU gymnastics head coach Frank Kudlac.
The Pioneers claimed this year’s USAG crown in thrilling fashion last night, coming from behind in the final two rotations of the meet to post a winning team score (and 2008 season-high) of 194.700. Cornell University placed second with a 193.675, Towson University was third with a 193.100, and Centenary College came in fourth with a 192.925.
Seven TWU gymnasts - Mollie Blessing (vault, floor), Brittany Parker (vault), Nicole Poling (vault), Amanda Walker (bars), Courtney Arno-Templet (bars, beam), Tonya Pipkorn (beam, floor), and Amie Boles (beam) - will compete at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon in the 2008 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championship Individual Event Finals.
NOTE: Please be aware that the Pioneers’ 10:00 p.m. arrival time is an estimate.
“Depending on how long today’s meet takes, as well as traffic and road conditions on the way home, we might be a little early or a little late getting back to Denton,” explained Kudlac. “ I encourage anybody wanting to check on the status of our trip to contact me on my cell phone, 940-300-6891. Inquiries can also be directed to our Sports Information Director, Jeff Bowerman, at (817) 874 – 0063.”
