MARCELLA FALLON SIGNS WITH TWU GYMNASTICS TEAM

DENTON, Texas (April 17) - The Texas Woman’s University gymnastics team completed their 2007-08 recruiting class earlier this week with the signing of Marcella Fallon to a national letter of intent.

Fallon is a native of McKinney, Texas. She has competed as a high school gymnast for the last four years (2005-08) at J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas. At Pearce, she has earned All-American Elite honors on three occasions and participated in two Texas State Gymnastics Championships.

Fallon also has 13 years of club gymnastics experience at Richardson Gymnastics. Her club gymnastics coach, Lindsey Clowers, was a TWU gymnast from 2000-2003. Fallon has another TWU connection, as she was teammates in both high school and club with Keri Miller, a sophomore on this year’s TWU gymnastics squad.

“Signing Marcella is a major coup for our program,” said TWU assistant coach Lisa Klein. “She is a very talented and explosive Level 10 gymnast who should help us right away on three events - vault, bars, and floor. Vault is her best event, as she is currently competing a very difficult Yurchenko full. She also has a major release move on bars which is a huge plus.”

Klein went on to note Fallon’s local ties.

“Building our team around Texas gymnasts only makes sense,” said Klein. “Recruiting in-state kids has been a focus of ours for the last few years and it is really starting to pay off.”

Counting Fallon, TWU will have three new faces on their 2009 team. Rashonda Cannie ( Killeen, Texas) and Audrey Embree ( Blue Springs, Missouri) signed with the Pioneers in November 2007.

The 2008 Pioneer gymnastics squad will be in action at 7:00 p.m. tonight when they compete in the team semifinals at the 2008 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana.
