ARNO-TEMPLET READY FOR NCAA REGIONALS
DENTON, Texas (April 11) – TWU gymnast Courtney Arno-Templet has every right to be confident heading into tomorrow night’s bars and beam competitions at the 2008 NCAA South Central Regional taking place at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
After all, the Pioneers’ senior sensation has won the bars and beam individual event titles at each of her last three meets - on Sunday, March 14, versus Centenary College, Kentucky and Utah State, on Thursday, March 20, at Southeast Missouri State University, and on Friday, March 28, at the 2008 Midwest Independent Conference Championships.
For the season, Arno-Templet (pictured) has nine titles on bars and six titles on beam. Her bars Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.860 is the sixth-highest in the South Central region and her beam RQS of 9.723 is the twelfth-best in the region.
“I feel like I’ve been getting stronger on both events as the season has gone along,” said Arno-Templet. “Hopefully I can keep it going at Regionals. The last two weeks of practice have been good for me to get focused and prepared for this meet.”
This is the third year in a row that Arno-Templet will compete in the South Central regionals. In 2007, she tied for fifth on the bars with a score of 9.800. In 2006, she represented TWU in both the bars and beam events.
TWU head coach Frank Kudlac is looking forward to seeing Arno-Templet test her skills at the regional level.
“Courtney has proved this season that she is one of the best gymnasts in the country,” he said. “If she hits like she has done all year long it wouldn’t surprise me to see her place very high at this meet.”
Arno-Templet will perform her bar routine in the fourth rotation of the meet. She will then be up on beam in the fifth rotation. TWU fans wishing to keep up with her scores can utilize the following live scoring link:
