PIONEER GYMNASTS RECOGNIZED BY MIC
DENTON, Texas (March 31) – Four Texas Woman’s University gymnasts - Courtney Arno-Templet, Amie Boles, Mollie Blessing, and Kristie Costa - earned 2008 All-Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) honors at the MIC Championship meet this past Friday night in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Arno-Templet (pictured) was an All-MIC first team choice on both bars and beam. Both selections are well deserved for the Pioneers’ standout senior from Coppell. She won nine individual event titles on bars and averaged a TWU team-best score of 9.804 on the apparatus. On four separate occasions, she scored a season-high 9.875. She was nearly as good on beam, winning six individual event titles and averaging a 9.723 (also the top score on the TWU team). On March 20, she registered a new career-high beam score by hitting a 9.900 routine. The All-MIC distinction for Arno-Templet is nothing new - she was a 2007 first-team pick on bars and a 2006 first-team honoree on bars and beam.
Costa, a freshman from Flower Mound, Texas, also made the All-MIC first team on beam. She competed on beam in eleven meets this season for TWU and averaged a 9.568. She recorded two second place finishes this year, one versus Centenary College on February 23 (when she delivered a career-high 9.800 score) and another at the MIC Championships.
Blessing grabbed a spot on the All-MIC second team for vault. The freshman from Plano, Texas, was the Pioneers’ most consistent vaulter this season. She averaged a 9.729 and, at two meets (March 8 at Denver and March 14 vs. Centenary, Kentucky, and Utah State) hit career-high 9.775 vaults. She also won the individual vault title on Sunday, February 17, in a quad meet at West Chester University.
Boles, a junior from Snellville, Georgia, was picked for the All-MIC first team on floor exercise for the second year in a row. She led TWU on floor this year with an average score of 9.731. On January 27, she won the floor exercise title in a home quad meet versus Denver University, Maryland, and Air Force by posting a new career-high (and TWU school record) score of 9.900. She also was the floor champion in a dual February 23 against Southeast Missouri State University.
Thirteen TWU gymnasts were also tabbed for the 2008 All-MIC scholastic team for their work in the classroom during the fall 2007 academic semester. The Pioneers taking home the academic honor are listed alphabetically below (with their fall 2007 GPA in parentheses):
