PIONEERS STAY 39TH IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
Current GymInfo Rankings
DENTON, Texas (March 25) - For the second consecutive week, the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers are ranked 39th in the GymInfo national poll of all NCAA Division I, II, and III college gymnastics teams.
The GymInfo rankings are based on a team’s Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). For collegiate women’s teams, an RQS is determined by averaging their six best regular season meet scores, of which three must be away.
To qualify as a team for next month’s NCAA South Central Regional Championship, TWU must finish in the top 36 of the national rankings. The Pioneers’ RQS this week is 193.370, less than three tenths below the RQS (193.665) of the 36th team in the rankings, the University of New Hampshire. The Pioneers have one more shot to move up in the rankings as their score this Friday, March 28, at the 2008 Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Championships will count towards their RQS.
“We’ve still got a chance to make regionals as team,” said TWU gymnastics head coach Frank Kudlac. “Obviously, we’re going to need a very high score this week, but if our team hits like they are capable, that’s certainly a possibility.”
For the eleventh week in a row, TWU is ranked first in the NCAA Division II rankings and the USA Gymnastics (USAG) college rankings. The Pioneers are also the second ranked team (behind Southeast Missouri State University) in this week’s MIC rankings.
TWU senior co-captain Courtney Arno-Templet continues to be one of the top uneven bar swingers in the entire country. Arno-Templet is ranked fourth in the NCAA South Central region in this week’s uneven bars rankings with a bars RQS of 9.860. Arno-Templet is also ranked first on both bars and beam (with a 9.845 beam RQS) in the USAG and MIC. Pioneer junior Amie Boles is ranked third in the USAG and second in the MIC on floor exercise with an RQS of 9.800.
