ARNO-TEMPLET WINS MIC GYMNAST OF THE WEEK AWARD

DENTON, Texas (March 12)Texas Woman’s University senior Courtney Arno-Templet (pictured) has been named the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Gymnast of the Week for the week of March 4-11, 2008.

Arno-Templet earned the MIC honor because of her scintillating performance on Saturday, March 8, in the Pioneers’ tri-meet at Denver University. On bars, she scored a 9.800 to tie for third on the event with DU’s Paige Schuster. On beam, she posted a career-high tying mark of 9.875 to share the individual event title with Denver’s Sasha Sullivan and Ellen McCarthy. The event title on beam was Arno-Templet’s third of the season on the difficult apparatus. She has also claimed six wins this year on bars.

This is the fourth time in her illustrious TWU career that Arno-Templet has won the MIC G.O.T.W week award. She earned this distinction once as a sophomore in 2005 and twice as a junior in 2007.

“Courtney is definitely deserving of this recognition,” said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “She has been consistently excellent on bars and beam all season long. I’m excited for her to be honored by the MIC.”

Arno-Templet’s tremendous efforts this year are also starting to draw her national attention. She is currently the top-ranked gymnast in the MIC, USAG, and NCAA Division II on both bars and beam. Additionally, she is the third-ranked bar worker in the NCAA South Central Region.

Arno-Templet (along with her senior teammate Nicole Poling) will compete in the final home meet of their careers this Friday, March 14, when the Pioneers host a quad versus Utah State University, the University of Kentucky, and Centenary College at 7:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena. Arno-Templet and Poling (along with senior student-assistant coach Brisa Fuentes) will be honored with a brief Senior Night ceremony following the competition. Rivers West, Denton’s very own Texas classic rock band, will be performing before (from 6-7 p.m.) and between rotations of the meet. It will also be the Pioneers’ first ever Short People Appreciation Night, as all spectators shorter than the life-sized signs of TWU gymnast Amy Hulbert (4’11”) will receive free admission.
