ARNO-TEMPLET LEADS PIONEERS TO SEASON-HIGH SCORE

Meet Results

DENTON, Texas (March 14)A scintillating performance from senior Courtney Arno-Templet led the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers to a season-high team score of 194.200 and a second place finish in a quad meet against Centenary College, the University of Kentucky, and Utah State University on Friday night at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton.

Competing the in the final home meet of her illustrious Pioneer career, Arno-Templet (pictured at left) won the individual event titles on both bars and beam. On bars, she scored a season-high tying 9.875 to narrowly defeat Kentucky sophomore Hilary Ferguson and Utah State freshman Nicole Simoneau (who had matching marks on 9.825). She was nearly as good on beam, posting a 9.825 to finish ahead of the mark of 9.775 recorded by TWU junior Amy Hulbert and Centenary freshman Laura Loy.

“What a fitting way for Courtney to end her career at home,” said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “She was phenomenal, to say the least. I felt all week that she was going to have a huge meet, and she didn’t let me down. She has meant so much to this program and I’m very pleased that her final performance in front of our home fans was so special.”

Arno-Templet’s outstanding effort overshadowed a stellar evening on floor exercise for the Pioneers. The TWU floor team of Hulbert , senior Nicole Poling, freshman Jennifer Liberato, junior Tonya Pipkorn, freshman Mollie Blessing, and junior Amie Boles had their best meet of the season, tumbling their way a 48.925 event score, a new TWU team record. Pipkorn (9.850) and Poling (9.825) paced the command performance by the Pioneer floor workers with new career-best scores.

Poling was also the top vaulter of the meet for the Pioneers, scoring a TWU team-best 9.850 on the event.

Kentucky , the 23rd-ranked team in the nation, won the meet with a team mark of 195.200. Sophomore Emily Green was the standout for the Wildcats, winning the individual event title on vault with a 9.925 and tying for the individual event title on floor exercise with a 9.900. Utah State finished just behind TWU with a score of 193.900. Centenary College, one of the Pioneers’ Midwest Independent Conference opponents, posted a 192.025 to come in fourth place.

“I can’t say enough good things about our seniors (Poling and Arno-Templet, pictured at right on the left and right, respectively, of senior student-assistant coach Brisa Fuentes),” stated an emotional Kudlac. “They are our co-captains and the heartbeat of our team. Tonight was about them, and they came up big. Our whole team followed their lead and we had our best meet of the season.”
